Detailing my eternal struggle to keep up with fashion trends, plus some nonsensical ramblings thrown in for good measure.

Right Timing?
For my first official post on a fashion trend, I thought I'd start big, and so start with.........watches! I know, exciting stuff. I know it's not exactly a ground breaking trend, but I've been looking for a new watch for a long time and have recently managed to find one I liked that was also fashionable - well, in my opinion anyway.
My previous watch was large with a black strap, round face and large silver numbers, but it had started to get coppery on the silver outline to the face and had generally started to ware. So I began to look for a new watch; I wanted at first to get one that was metal link and with a large face again - kind of like a male watch, or a big 'bling' watch without the actual bling (fake diamonds around the face for example). I think wearing a watch like that loose around the wrist can look fashionable, perhaps because it is the look often worn by celebrities - see Rihanna wearing a gold version to the right.
However I failed to find a cheap high street version that I liked (being a student I cannot afford anything more than high street prices). But then I came across something in an e-newsletter from asos.com. I'm sure I don't need to tell you about asos.com as it's pretty popular, but if you've never checked it out I urge you to - it's got great, on-trend pieces for high street prices, and some designer stuff for those who can afford it. Anyway I saw a watch on a newsletter and I loved it and ordered it straight away (it was only around £17 which I think is about right for a watch). It is not actually what I had previously been looking for, but I knew as soon as I saw it that I wanted it and it was an emerging watch trend.
The watch in question is a gold link watch with a medium sized strap and a smallish, square face. However it is not your usual analogue watch; it's digital, and I think the combination of gold link and digital is what makes it great. The shiny gold makes it stand out and I think gold is great for accessories - it's been an accessory trend for quite a while but I still like it. Also as its quite loose, it often twists round on my arm and so looks just like a gold bracelet, which is always an added bonus. Then the digital makes it more original and also ties in with the eighties, retro trend that is everpresent at the moment. I hadn't actually thought of buying a watch like this, but once I saw it I realised I had seen watches like this beginning to emerge in magazines and on celebrities.
So gold, digital watches: fashion trend or fashion trash?
